Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Individuals who have been convicted of an offense involving a criminal sexual conduct such as rape, child molestation, and sexual assault are classified as sex offenders. Federal law states that all sex offenders have to register their information in the state and national sex offender databases in the interest of public safety. The definition of a sex crime varies based on state laws. Anyone can use Kentucky’s sex offender registry here to locate any sex offenders living in the state. Please be advised that the information in the database cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate all the time. Some offenders do fail to register their information. As such, you may get search results detailing an offender’s last known address rather than his current one.

Bail and Bondsman

When charged with a criminal offense, an individual may be able to stay out of jail for the remainder of the time before the trial starts. This is done through bail. There are different types of bail. One type of bond, Personal Recognizance, allows the individual to be set free provided that he signs a bond stating that he will be present at all of his required court appearances. Other types of bond will require the individual to also put down money or property as an additional guarantee. If he misses one of his scheduled court dates, then the money or property is lost.

For some individuals, the amount of money or value of property required by the court is too high. They can opt to hire the services of a bondsman to help them meet the bail amount. The bondsman will sign the bond, assuring the court that the payment of the entire amount will be made by him if the individual does not show up in court. The fee charged by a bondsman is usually set at 10% of the bail amount.

There is no commercial bail bonding industry in Kentucky because the practice has been outlawed. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). If a bondsman from another state were to arrest a fugitive who has run away to Kentucky, he is required by law to get a warrant first. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
