Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

All sex offenders must be registered in the sex offender registry of the state they currently live in as well as in the federal government’s national sex offender database. Persons are classified as sex offenders if they have been found guilty of a sexually motivated criminal offense such as sexual assault, child pornography, and child molestation. The Kentucky sex offender database is available to the public online.

It is important to bear in mind that the information cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate. Some results may only show an offender’s incomplete address such as the block they live on. Some sex offenders may also choose not to obey the law which means that their address in the database may no longer be current.

Bail and Bondsman

The court can grant a temporary get-out-of-jail-free card to an accused individual while he waits for his court date. This process is called a bond or bail. The temporary release has one or more conditions, depending on the type of bond or bail that is set. One of those conditions may be the partial or full payment of a monetary value. For some bonds, such as the surety bond, no payment is made. But the defendant is held liable by the court to pay the entire bail amount if he misses a court appearance. In cases where payment is made, the money pledged to the court will be forfeited.

For individuals who are unable to post bail because of monetary concerns, a bondsman can act as a surety for the defendant. This means that upon hiring, the bondsman can sign the bond that will declare him responsible for paying the entire bail amount if the defendant does not comply with the conditions of his release. To hire a bondsman, you will need to pay him a non-refundable fee that is usually somewhere between 8-10% of the bail amount.

It is illegal to practice commercial bail bonding in Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). Bond agents coming from out of state are not allowed to arrest a fugitive hiding out in Kentucky without a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
