Important Jail Policies and Procedures:
Inmates are encouraged to visit with family and friends while they are incarcerated in the Todd County Detention Center. Each inmate is allowed 15 minutes per visit, one visit a day. County inmates cannot have visitors on the first Saturday of each month. This is reserved for state inmate contact visitation for inmates classified as a level 1, 2, or A. It is also reserved for window visits for all other inmates, from 7am to 5pm. Inmates with a lunch break between 11am and 1pm are allowed a 1-hour maximum visit.
Visitation hours are as follows:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
9:00 AM-10:30 AM and 2:00 PM-3:30 PM
Money can be deposited into an inmate’s commissary account by dropping off cash or money orders at the jail window lobby. This is open 24/7. Checks will not be accepted. Money orders must be dropped off by 2pm on Sundays and Wednesdays for them to be credited to the inmate’s account and be available for commissary purchases within the day.
Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
A person is called as a sex offender when he has been found guilty of of a sexually motivated crime. The crimes that are categorized as such are not always the same for each state. However, some crimes are generally accepted by most states as such. For example, rape, prostitution, and sexual assault. It is mandated by federal law that all sex offenders must notify local law enforcement upon their release from prison. Their information is then included in the state and national sex offender registries for public safety and awareness. You can check here to see which sex offenders are living in your neighborhood in Kentucky. Keep in mind that not all sex offenders comply with the law. You may find that some offenders only have their last known addresses listed because they failed to update their registration.
Bail and Bondsman
For a defendant to remain free while awaiting trial, the court must grant bail. Bail is the permission of the court that requires the defendant to guarantee his return when his trial begins. In some cases, the bail will require more than just the written promise. The defendant may be asked to lodge money or property which will be forfeited if he does not keep his word.
A bondsman is an individual who acts as a surety – taking ownership of the payment of the bail on behalf of the defendant because he cannot do it on his own for financial reasons. To hire a bondsman, you will have to pay his non-refundable fee which is usually 10% of the bail amount.
In Kentucky, the commercial bail bonding industry has been banned. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). According to state law, a bondsman from another state may not apprehend a fugitive who has fled to Kentucky without acquiring a warrant first. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
