Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Persons who have been convicted of committing a sex crime are considered sex offenders. Sex crimes are illegal acts that involve sexual misconduct committed against another individual without their consent. While each state may have slight differences on what offenses will be classified as sex crimes, there are several that are widely accepted as sexually oriented criminal offenses such as rape, sexual assault, and sex trafficking.

The law states that sex offenders must be registered with the County Sheriff who has jurisdiction over their place of residence. The Sheriff is responsible for collecting an offender’s information and entering it into the state’s sex offender registry. The federal government also collects the information on a nationwide level. All these registries are available for public use.

If you wish to locate nearby sex offenders in Barren County, you can visit the state sex offender registry here. It is important to bear in mind that the government cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information in the database. This is because not all sex offenders comply with the law. As such, you may receive results that contain an offender’s last known address or just the block where he/she lives.

Bail and Bondsman

A person charged with a criminal offense may be permitted by the court to stay out of jail while he waits for his trial to start. This permission is called bail. Depending on the court’s decision, bail may be granted if the defendant is able to put down money or property that will serve as a surety, guaranteeing the defendant’s appearance in court when the trial comes around. If he doesn’t, the money or property pledged to the court will be forfeit.

When a defendant is unable to post bail on his own, he can secure the services of a bondsman. A bondsman can also act as a surety, guaranteeing the full payment of the bail if the defendant fails to appear before the court when called. The bondsman typically charges 10% of the bail amount for his services and the fee is non-refundable.

In Kentucky, the commercial bail bond industry has been made illegal. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). Fugitives who have fled to Kentucky can only be arrested by a bond agent from another state if he has a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
