To find out if sex offenders are living near you in Kentucky, you can access the registry here.

Bail and Bondsman

If you are charged with a criminal offense in Meade County, you can obtain the court’s permission to get out of jail while your trial is still pending if you post bail. There are different kinds of bail. One type of bail will allow you to be released as long as you promise to show up at your trial. Several types of bail will require you to pledge money or property to the court along with the understanding that you will lose the money or property if you miss a court appearance.

If you don’t have enough money to post bail, you can hire a bondsman. For a non-refundable fee, he will sign the bond and guarantee to the court that he can be held liable if you violate the conditions of your release. The bondsman usually charges 10% of the bail amount.

Commercial bail bonding in the state of Kentucky is illegal. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). A bonds agent from out of state can only apprehend a fugitive who has fled to Kentucky if he has obtained a warrant first. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
