Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
According to the law, sex offenders must notify law enforcement of any changes in their information so that it may be registered in the national and state sex offender databases. A sex offender is defined as a person who has been found guilty of an illegal act involving sex such as molestation, child pornography, and sex trafficking. The people of Kentucky can locate sex offenders in their area by visiting this website. Please be reminded that not all sex offenders follow the law. Some search results may show inaccurate information such as previous addresses rather than current ones. You may also see some incomplete addresses.
Bail and Bondsman
Once a person is charged with a crime, he may be allowed to stay out of jail until the trial starts. This permission from the court is called bail. It is allowed with the understanding that the accused will appear before the court when his presence is required. In some cases, the court will also ask for additional assurance in the form of money or property. If the defendant misses any of his court appearances, he will lose the money or property pledged to the court.
Some defendants may have trouble paying the bail amount. In cases like this, the defendant can pay a bondsman to post bail for him. A bondsman’s fee is normally 10% of the bail amount. He may require additional property as collateral. When you hire a bondsman, he will act as a surety, becoming the new owner of the “debt” you owe the court if you violate the terms of your release.
In Kentucky, it is illegal to practice commercial bail bonding. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). A warrant is required if a bail bondsman from another state should wish to arrest a fugitive who has fled to Kentucky. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
