The public can access the databases to locate sex offenders in their area. To find sex offenders living in Kentucky, you can visit this website.

It is imperative that you take into account that some offenders may not obey the registration law. Thus, some searches may only show the last known addresses of offenders. In some cases, addresses may be incomplete.

Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the process that allows an inmate to stay out of jail jail while his trial is still pending with the promise that he will show up at all his scheduled court appearances. Depending on the charges and the “flight risk” of a defendant, a monetary value or form of property may be added to the bond. This serves as an extra form of insurance that will help make sure that the defendant will make an appearance during his trial. If he misses even just one of his scheduled appearances, the money or property will be forfeited.

A bondsman is an agent backed by an insurance company. For a certain fee, he will post bail for defendants who are unable to do so because they lack funds. By doing this, he will serve as a surety, owning the debt of the defendant to the court if he does not show up as promised. The fee he charges is usually set at 10% of the bail amount and is non-refundable.

The commercial bail bond industry is illegal in Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). Bondsmen from other states looking to arrest a fugitive who is currently in Kentucky must get a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
