Butler county was established in 1800 and was named for a Revolutionary War hero, General Richard Butler.  The area is famous for wire rope, proving that oil could be tapped from underground and the Jeep was first developed in this county.  William J. Perry who was Clinton’s Secretary of Defense if the highest ranking federal official to come out of Butler county.  And in 1963, Bret Michaels, lead singer of Poison was born here.  Butler is both the county seat and the largest city in the county.
