Uniontown, PA  15401

County History:

Fayette county was established in 1783.  Uniontown is the county seat and like other counties, there was a tug of war between Pennsylvania and New York for the areas.  When World War II began, this area had become heavily unionized in both the coal and steel industries.  As both industries declined, the area lost many working families to other counties because they needed jobs.  During the 21st century a few mines are still being worked and natural resources are still essential to the local economy.  The county’s job market has been increasing in the services industry, particularly telemarketing.
