Services and Responsibilities:

The Prothonotary is the primary custodian of the Court of Common Pleas’ civil records, with the administrative responsibility for their safekeeping and preservation. The responsibilities of the Prothonotary Office include; General notarizing, assessing fees associated with the filing of documents, maintenance of civil dockets and indices for public inspection, collection and distribution of state-mandated fees to appropriate agencies and finally, maintenance of domestic relation records and filings. On the other hand, the Clerk of Courts is the chief custodian of the criminal records, responsible for maintaining criminal cases, juvenile records, Assessment, collection and distribution of fines, costs and restitution, Processing Commonwealth and Superior Courts Appeals, Administers oaths and affirmations to public officials and court proceedings, Reporting dispositions of criminal cases to Department of Transportation. Moreover, the Clerk of Court Office also involves in Bail processing, Issuing private detective licenses and acting as a Passport acceptance agent.

Services and Responsibilities:

The Recorder of Deeds Office’s primary responsibility is to record and maintain accurate and complete records related to real estate transactions. Records include; Land related documents, Notary Bonds and Commissions, Powers of Attorney, Mortgages, Deeds, Leases, Right of Ways, Clean and Green, Grantor-Grantee Books, Mortgagor Books and Veteran’s Discharges. The Office is also in charge of the Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphan’s Court. The Register of Wills Office is accountable for the collection of inheritance tax as well as probate wills. Besides, the Clerk of Orphan’s Court is responsible for the accuracy and complete maintenance of case files for accounts (estate, trust and guardian) adoptions, appeals, claims against estates, guardianships, minors’ estates, small estate proceedings, trusts, wrongful death actions as well as other miscellaneous filings.
