Sex Offender Search and Lookup
According to federal law, a sex offender must provide his information to local law enforcement for entry into the state sex offender registry and the national sex offender database. These systems are used to monitor the movement of these offenders and increase public safety. The definition of a sex offender is a person with a conviction for an offense involving sexual conduct such as sexual assault, child pornography, and prostitution. Residents of Shelby County can locate sex offenders in their neighborhood by visiting the Sheriff’s Alert page. Just keep in mind that not all offenders will obey the law. Some of the records you see may only show the offender’s last known address.

Bail and Bondsman
Bail is the amount of money a defendant needs to pay to the court if he wants to stay out of jail while his trial is still pending. The court keep the money during the trial to help ensure that the defendant shows up at all of his scheduled court appearances. Failure to appear will result in the bail being revoked and forfeited.
A defendant who cannot afford bail can use the services of a bail bondsman. A bondsman can sign a bond with the court to facilitate the release of a defendant. For this kind of service, he typically charges 10% of the bail amount. This fee is non-refundable.
