Sangamon County is located in the center of Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population was 197,465.The county seat is Springfield, the capital of Illinois. The jail is an adult medium custody facility with a capacity of 314 inmates. It is under the Sangamon Sheriff’s office jurisdiction. Important Jail Policies and Procedures

All the inmate’s needs are supplied by the facility. Few items are allowed into the facility from the outside. The only clothes allowed to be brought in without special permission are clothes for trial appearances.

Inmates can receive and send mail to family, friends and legal representatives. Incoming mail must have the facility address and the inmate’s name. Mail may be subject to inspection.

Telephone are placed in every cellblock in the facility. Inmates are allowed to make as any calls daily as they wish.

Visitation for inmates is daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. through the video visitation system. Visits are 25 minutes and monitored. Inmates can have up to four visits per week.
