Marshall County is located in the northcentral portion of Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population of Marshall County was 12,640. The county seat is Lacon and Marshall County is part of the Peoria, IL Metropolitans Statistical Area.

The county was formed in 1839 and named in honor of John Marshall, Chief Justice of the United State Supreme Court who died in 1835.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department maintains the jail. Jail Officers are on duty 24/7 to maintain security, custody, and control of all incarcerated persons. Important Jail Policies and Procedures

Visitation is allowed twice a week at the Marshall County Jail. Visitation hours are between
5:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays. Visitation is allowed by immediate family only. Special request may be made to Sheriff Russell or Chief Deputy Hatton for approval. No one, including family members with felony convictions or pending court cases will be allowed to visit.

All mail can be sent to an inmate via the U.S. Postal Service. Make sure the inmates first and last name are on the mail and a return address is provide. All mail is subject to search and seizure.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for a full-time Deputy Sheriff. Applications are available on the Marshall County Website at: http://marshallcountyillinois.com and can be found by selecting the sheriff tab under elected officials. Requirements include no felony convictions, high school diploma or GED equivalent, valid driver’s license 21 years at the time of application.

Salary starts at $50,210.15 annual with a $.20 shift differential pay for evening and night shifts. A 2% education bonus for associates in criminal sciences or Bachelors in any field. There are 13 paid holidays, 12 hours shifts with rotating weekends off, $1,000 annual clothing allowances and $1,000 equipment reimbursement. Paid vacation, sick and personal time. Health, vision and dental insurance is also provided.
