Services and Responsibilities:

The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court is a Constitutional Office. The Clerk is required to attend all sessions of court, keep and preserve all records and files of the court, make, support and maintain complete descriptions of all the proceedings and determinations of the court, issue process as required by law, and is the Keeper of the Seal of the Court. The Circuit Court, under the Illinois Constitution, is the trial-level court. It handles every type of case from traffic tickets to a murder case, from Small Claims to a multi-million dollar personal injury suit, and from adoption to the probate of an estate.

Services and Responsibilities:

The Clerk is responsible for the conduct of all elections in Montgomery County. Elections include all Federal, State, County, City, School, Township, Village, Park and Library Districts. The Clerk is the official record keeper for all births, deaths, and marriages in Montgomery County. Each year the Clerk’s office records marriage licenses and birth certificates in Montgomery County. The Clerk records the minutes of all County Board meetings. Additionally, the Clerk collects delinquent tax payments on mobile homes, as well as on other real estate. And finally, the Clerk’s office processes all accounts payable for the county.
