Important Jail Policies and Procedures:
Inmates at the Mercer County Correction Center are allowed visitation. Once booked, each inmate will be asked to complete a visitor’s list. Visitors are then approved by the Warden.
Each inmate is allowed a maximum of 2 visitors at a time. Visits are 1 hour in length. Visitors younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All visitors must present an identification card. The visitation schedule of an inmate will depend on his assigned Living Unit. Handbags, paper or plastic bags, baby chairs, and children’s toys are not allowed in the visiting area. All visitors are subject to search. To learn the visitation schedule for an inmate, you can inquire with the inmate or obtain it from the correction center.
Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
A sex offender is someone who has been convicted of a sex offense such as rape, prostitution, and incest. The law stipulates that all sex offenders need to be registered in the state sex offender database and the national sex offender database. These are tools used to increase public safety and awareness. In Mercer County, you can locate sex offenders in your neighborhood by visiting the Sheriff’s Alert page. Keep in mind that you may get search results showing last known addresses of offenders. This may be caused by the non-compliance of some offenders with the registration law.
Bail and Bondsman
A cash bail system is no longer used in New Jersey. Instead, it determines whether or not a person is incarcerated while awaiting trial with the use of a risk assessment tool. This algorithm is used to determine whether or not the defendant will harm society or fail to appear in court. With a high score, the defendant will be recommended to stay inside jail while awaiting trial. If he gets a low score, the tool will recommend that the defendant be released because he is unlikely to commit a crime again or flee.
