Service and Responsibilities:

The Clerk of the Circuit Courts Office provides administrative and record-keeping services for the circuit courts and the citizens of Washington County. The Clerk of Circuit Courts Office maintains records of all documents filed with the courts as well as records of court proceedings, schedule court hearings, and collect various fees, fines and forfeitures ordered by the court or specified by statute of Wisconsin. In addition, the Office is also responsible for selecting and notifying potential jurors for jury service. Furthermore, the Circuit Court Office also handles administrative responsibilities such as; budgeting and administering trial court resources, developing effective policies and procedures and recruiting and maintaining competent staff. Besides, the Clerk of Circuit Court maintains a close liaison with Court Administrators, providing an administrative link between the judiciary, the County Board and the public.

The Office of the Register in Probate assists the public, courts, and attorneys with formal and informal probate related cases. The Register in Probate and Clerk of Juvenile Court are administered by the judges of Washington County and are a division of the Clerk of Courts Office.

Services and Responsibilities:

The County Clerk is a constitutional officer, administered to keep records for various basic county functions, as well as acting as the Secretary of the County Board of Supervisors and Election Administrator. The responsibilities of the County Clerk include preparing and maintaining County Board agendas, minutes, resolutions, ordinances, appointments, legal notices, and publications; coordinating federal, state, and all local elections; maintaining and preparing county directory of all federal, state, and local officials, county agencies and departments; issuing and maintaining oaths, bonds and certificates of election for all county officials; performing purchasing duties and maintaining claims filed within the County. Besides, the County Clerk is also responsible for payroll, budgeting, and voucher preparation; maintaining personnel records, payroll records, and employee benefit programs. The County Clerk’s Office also handles passport applications and fees.
