The Yakima County District Court is a court that hears cases such as, traffic and non-traffic infractions, misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor criminal offenses, civil matters for damages and contract disputes not exceeding $100,000.00, small claim matters for recovery of money not exceeding $5000.00, name changes, anti-harassment and stalking protection orders. Besides, the Yakima County District Court also provides support for Union Gap Municipal Court, Grandview Municipal Court and Mabton Municipal Court.

Service and Responsibilities:

The County Clerk of Asotin County is an elected official, also titled as ex-officio Clerk of Superior Court and ex-officio Clerk of the Court is responsible to protect the integrity and accuracy of the court records of Yakima County Superior Court. The responsibilities include, processing of court documents, records classification, felony criminal case records, civil records, domestic/family law, probate, adoptions/paternity, mental commitment, juvenile offender, and juvenile dependency. Besides, the Clerk also acts as a court agent in collecting statutory fees, fines, trust, and support funds, maintains a trust account for monies received, disburses monies as well as provides an investment plan for monies held. As a Departmental Administrator, the County Clerk takes responsibilities in establishing office policies, budgets. Finally, the County Clerk of Asotin also serves as Quasi-Judicial Officer and Jury Management Officer responsible for issuing letters testamentary, warrants of arrest, orders of sale, writs of execution, garnishment, attachments, restitution, and management of jury panel and establish a record of judgments.
