Burleson County had a population of 17,187 as of the 2010 census and was established in 1846. The county seat is Caldwell and it is also the largest community. The county’s total area is 677 square miles. The county is named for Edward Burleson, a general and statesman of the Texas Revolution
From 1975 to 1995, the Burleson county judge, was the father/son team of Mark Steglich Caperton (born 1946), a Caldwell attorney, and Woods Allen Caperton (1920-2009). Mark Caperton was the judge from 1975 to 1983 and was succeeded by his father, a former agent of the United States Soil Conservation Service.
