Federal law stipulates that local law enforcement must be informed by sex offenders whenever there is a change in residential address, work, email, etc. Their information must always be updated in the state and national sex offender registries for the purpose of promoting public safety and awareness. A person convicted of a sexually oriented offense such as child molestation, prostitution, and sex trafficking is classified as a sex offender. Go online at https://www.tn.gov/tbi/section/tennessee-sex-offender-registry to locate sex offenders residing or working in Washington County. However, it must be taken into account that some offenders may fail to update their information. As such, you may find last known addresses listed in some entries.
Bail and Bondsman
Bail is when the court asks for money or property to be put down as collateral before they grant temporary release to an inmate awaiting trial. This helps to ensure the inmate’s return to court once the trial starts. If he or she fails to appear, bail is forfeited and the inmate becomes a fugitive.
If an inmate cannot afford to pay the bail amount, a bondsman can be hired to do so on his behalf. The bondsman usually charges 10% of the bail amount. The fee cannot be refunded. In exchange for the fee, the bondsman is held responsible by the court for paying the entire bail amount if the inmate skips bail.
