Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
Sex offenders are individuals who have been convicted of a sexually oriented offense such as rape, sodomy, and prostitution. Federal law requires sex offenders to submit their information to local law enforcement for records purposes. If you wish to obtain a list of sex offenders residing in your neighborhood, you can contact the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3725 Extension 4429. Only high risk predator sex offenders under the supervision of the Community Corrections can be found in the list provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
Bail and Bondsman
Oregon is a state that has a justice department that acts as a bail bond agency. It allows an accused individual to only post 10% of the bail in exchange for his temporary release from jail. This is called security. Bail and security are utilized by the court as collateral to ensure that the defendant returns for his trial.
If a judge doesn’t believe that getting released on personal recognizance or conditional release is appropriate, he may set a bail amount. The total amount will be dependent on several factors: criminal history, severity of the crime, and connections in the community. Someone charged with drug possession may be given bail at $10,000 while an individual arrested for a sex offense may have his bail set at $75,000.
Unlike most other states, Oregon has banned the commercial bail bond industry. It is one of only four other states that have done so. If a defendant skips bail, a bounty hunter will not be hired to catch him. It will be the justice department’s responsibility.
