These changes must be entered in the state sex offender registry and the national sex offender registry. If you want to locate sex offenders living in Niagara County, you can go to the Sheriff’s Alert page. Bear in mind that the information in the database cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate. Not all offenders update their registration. This is there may be times when you will get search results showing last known addresses of offenders.

Bail and Bail Bond Agent:

In order for a defendant to be granted temporary release from jail while awaiting trial, bail must be paid. Bail is the amount of money required by the court as a form of collateral to secure the defendant’s compliance with all of his court obligations. After the trial, the defendant receives the bail back minus a 3% administrative fee as long as all obligations have been met. If the defendant misses a court appearance, then the bail is forfeited and the court issues a warrant for the arrest of the defendant. The defendant will have to remain in custody if bail is not posted.
The exact amount is required by the New York courts when bail is being paid. Change will not be provided. They do allow individuals to use different modes of payment in one transaction. The modes of payment accepted by the courts are as follows:

  • US Cash
  • Cashier’s Checks (cannot be more than the bail amount)
  • Money orders from banks or Western Union (each order must not be more than $1000)
  • Debit Cards
  • Credit Cards (plus an 8% processing fee)
A defendant who cannot post bail on his own can use the services of a bond agent. The fee charged for the services is non-refundable. Finding out the cost of such a service can be done using the bail amount because these fees have been placed in a tiered system by the New York State Insurance Department. The fees of a bond agent can be calculated using the system below.
The fee for a bond of $200 or less is $10.
The fee for a bond of $3000 or less is 10% of the bail.
The fee for a bond of $3001 to $10000 is 10% of $3000 and 8% of the remaining account.
The fee for a bond more than $10000 is 10% of $3000, 8% of the amount between $3000 and $10000, and 6% of the remaining amount.
    For example, the bond fee for a $150000 bail is $1160. The calculation is (10% x $3000) + (8% x $7000) + (6% x $5000).
