Residents of Nassau County can use the New York State Sex Offender Registry to locate offenders living in their neighborhood. Keep in mind that the accuracy of the information listed in the database cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate because some sex offenders do not submit their information. You may find that some records will only show last known addresses of offenders.

Bail and Bail Bond Agents

The payment made to the court in exchange for the temporary release of a defendant awaiting trial is called bail. This is called bail and will be used to ensure that he will return for his trial once it begins. A refund will be done by the court minus a 3% administrative fee if the defendant fulfills all of his court obligations. Forfeiture of bail happens when the defendant fails to appear at one of his scheduled court appearances. If bail is not paid, the defendant will have to stay in jail until the case is dismissed or he is released.
When paying bail, the exact payment must be given. This is because the courts of New York will not be giving you any change. However, they do allow different forms of money to be used in one transaction. These are the following:

  • US Cash
  • Cashier’s Check (cannot be more than the bail)
  • Money orders from Western Union or a bank; each order must not be higher than $1000
  • Credit Card; will require payment of an 8% processing fee
  • Debit Card
In New York, bond agents can be paid a fee to post bail on behalf of defendants. This fee cannot be refunded. Bond agents are regulated by the New York State Insurance Department and their fees are placed in a tiered system. Check the information below to learn how to calculate your bond fee based on your bail amount.
A bond of $200 or less will have a fee of $10.
A bond of $3000 or less will have a fee that is 10% of the bail amount.
A bond of $3001 to $10000 will have a fee that is 10% for the first $3000 and 8% for the rest of the bail amount.
A bond greater than $10000 will have a fee that is 10% for the first $3000, 8% for the amount between $3000 and $10000, and 6% for the rest of the bail amount.
    For example:
    For a $15000 bond, you will need to calculate (10% x $3000) + (8% x $7000) + (6% x $5000). Following this calculation, the fee that a bond agent will charge is $1160.
