Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

There are some important procedures that you should know before visiting an inmate in the Bernalillo County jail. Visits are processed in a first-come first-serve basis and it may be cancelled anytime without prior notice. Only two visits are allowed per week and an inmate must have been in the custody for 72 hours before visits can begin. No cell phones or any electronic device is allowed in the meeting room.

Visits may be denied for any of the following reasons:

  • An MDC supervisor, manager, or administrator considers the guest a danger to the security of the inside, staff, or detainees
  • The inmate denies the visit
  • The guest is harsh to MDC faculty
  • The guest is absent at the season of the visit
  • The guest is improperly dressed

    Proper dress code rule for visitors (12 years or older male and female):

  • Uncovering, sheer, or transparent clothing isn’t permitted
  • Shorts or miniskirts are not permitted (men’s/kid’s shorts underneath the knee are okay)
  • Sleeveless or low profile shirts are not permitted
  • Dresses and capri pants must be underneath the knee when in a situated position
  • Some kind of footwear must be worn by the guest constantly (shoes and flip-flops are okay)
  • Caps, handkerchiefs, and scarves are not permitted
  • Auto seats, strollers, and diaper packs are not allowed in the meeting room, but rather can be left in the assigned region in the hall
  • Coats must be removed before visit and can be put in accessible lockers or in the assigned zone
  • Just three individuals for each visit (regardless of age)
