Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

Inmates at the Douglas County Jail are allowed non-contact visits. All visits must be scheduled beforehand by calling (775)782-9085 on Tuesdays between 9 AM and 5 PM.

All visitors need to be at least 18 years old and possess a valid photo ID. The jail will check for outstanding criminal warrants. Children, those under the age of 18, must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Visits are held on Thursdays only 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM in 30 minute blocks. Each inmate is allowed one visit per day. Individuals who have been detained in the Douglas County Jail within the past 90 days will not be permitted to visit an inmate.

Inmates are also allowed to receive letters via US mail. All incoming mail must have the inmate’s name and the sender’s complete name and return address. Inmates are not allowed to receive magazines or newspapers of any kind. All mail will be opened and inspected by the jail staff.

Family and friends can deposit money for an inmate by leaving cash, money orders, and cashier’s checks at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Jail Administration during normal business hours. An entry-level deputy sheriff is paid a minimum hourly wage of $20.02. The top pay for this position is $31.63 per hour. A deputy sheriff patrols designated areas within the county, enforces laws and traffic regulations, maintaining peace in the community, and responding to emergencies.

A sex offender is someone who has been found guilty of a sex crime such as rape, prostitution, and incest. Federal law stipulates that such an offender needs to submit his information to local law enforcement for entry into the state sex offender registry and national sex offender registry. Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the money lodged with the court in exchange for the temporary release of a defendant from custody while the trial is still pending. The money will be used to ensure the defendant will appear in court once the trial starts. The defendant will get his money back after the trial with the court fees and fines deducted as long as he complies with all of his court obligations. Violating any of the conditions of his release will mean forfeiting the money.
