Bail and Bondsman

The money or property pledged with the court in exchange for granting an inmate’s release while he waits for trial is called bail. This is part of the defendant’s guarantee to the court that he will return for the trial once it starts. If he fails to appear, the court keeps the money/property.

In Oktibbeha County, a bondsman can be hired if you cannot come up with the money to post bail. For a fee equal to 10% of the bail, the bondsman will act as a surety.
