Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
According to federal law, a sex offender must report any changes in his information to local law enforcement for records purposes. These changes must be entered in the state sex offender registry and the national sex offender database. A sex offender is defined as an individual who has a conviction for a sexually motivated crime such as rape, sexual assault, and incest. Sex offenders in Jackson County can be located by visiting the Sheriff’s Alert page. Not all offenders will update their information so you may encounter records that only show last known addresses.
Bail and Bondsman
To remain out of jail while awaiting trial, a defendant is required to place money or property into the court’s keeping. This is called bail and will be used by the court to ensure that the defendant comes back for his trial. The court refunds the bail after trial is done minus court fees. However, bail is forfeited if the defendant does not show up as promised.
A defendant who cannot afford bail can still get released from jail if he pays a bondsman to act as a surety. The fee is typically 10% of the bail amount. However, unlike bail, this cannot be refunded.
