Bail and Bondsman
A pretrial inmate is allowed to secure temporary release from jail through the posting of bail. This is the amount of money that is required by the court to be used as insurance for the defendant’s appearance at his trial. Failure to appear will result in the bail getting revoked and forfeited.
If the pretrial inmate does not have enough funds for posting bail, a bondsman’s services can be used instead. A bondsman can sign a bond with the court in exchange for the defendant’s temporary release. The cost of hiring a bondsman is usually 10% of the bail amount.
