A person convicted of a sexually oriented crime such as rape, child pornography, and incest is classified as a sex offender. The law mandates that all sex offenders must submit his/her information to the state and national sex offender registries. Visit http://sharpcountysheriff.com/sex_offenders.php to get data on the sex offenders residing in Sharp County. The disclaimer provided must be read and acknowledged beforehand. At times, you may get records that only list the last known address of an offender. This may be caused by the failure of the offender to register his information.
Bail and Bondsman
Bail is the money pledged to the court in exchange for the temporary release of a defendant from jail while awaiting trial. This money is held by the court to help ensure the defendant’s appearance in court once the trial starts. A missed court appearance will result in the forfeiture of the money.
A defendant who cannot post the entire bail amount can secure his release through the help of a bondsman. A bondsman can sign a bond with the court, promising payment of a certain amount (stated in the bond) should the defendant fail to appear in court after getting released. The bondsman typically charges 12% of the bail amount. Unlike bail pledged to the court, the bondsman’s fee cannot be refunded no matter what the outcome of the case may be.
