Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

Inmates at the Craighead County Detention Center are allowed one visit per week. Visitors will be asked for the inmate’s first and last name. All visitors must leave a state-issued ID or other official form of identification in order to visit. Only two people are allowed to visit an inmate at a time. Visitors 12 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Only conservatively-dressed ladies will be allowed to visit inmates.

Male visitation: Friday (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) Saturday and Sunday (1:00 to 3:00 p.m.)

Female visitation: Thursday (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.) Saturday (8:30 to 10:30 a.m.)

Inmates are allowed to receive and send mail. No packages are allowed; only letters may be sent to inmates. Inmates may send out standard U.S. mail and Legal mail daily with the exception of Sunday.

Federal law stipulates that sex offenders must have their information submitted to the state and national sex offender registries. This enables law enforcement agencies track the movements of such offenders as well as increase public safety and awareness. Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the money lodged with the court in exchange for the release of a pretrial inmate from jail. This money is held in the court’s keeping to ensure that the inmate will return to court once the trial begins. Failure to appear means the bail will be revoked and forfeited.

A pretrial inmate can hire a bondsman to post bail on his behalf if he cannot afford to do it on his own. A bondsman will typically charge 12% of the bail amount as his fee. This cannot be refunded even if the defendant meets all his court obligations and/or has been found not guilty.
