The Tygart Valley Regional Jail is one of several correctional facilities operated by the West Virginia Regional Jail & Correctional Facility Authority. It serves 7 counties – Barbour, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Upshur. The jail is located off the Coalton/Norton exit of Route 33, seven miles west of Elkins. It was officially opened in June 2005. The facility houses the majority of the State’s female inmates awaiting transfer to prison.

All visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or submit a notarized statement from the parent or legal guardian authorizing the visit. Only non-incarcerated parents or legal guardians may authorize juvenile visitation. If not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian the visitor must be accompanied by an authorized adult visitor, and must have a signed, notarized Juvenile Visitation Form.
