Bail and Bondsman
Bail enables a pretrial inmate to stay out of jail while the trial is still pending. This is done by pledging money to the court that will serve as collateral, securing the defendant’s appearance at his trial. If he doesn’t show up in court, the inmate will be labeled a fugitive. He also forfeits his money.
In case the pretrial inmate cannot afford the bail, he can go to a bail bondsman for help. A bail bondsman can act as a surety in exchange for 10% of the bail amount. This fee cannot be refunded.
