Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Federal law mandates that all sex offenders must register their information with the state police to be entered into the state sex offender database. The definition of a sex offender is someone who has been convicted of a crime of a sexual nature such as rape, prostitution, and sexual abuse. Residents of Jackson County can request for a list of sex offenders residing in their neighborhood from the Oregon State Police. They can also search the Oregon Sex Offender Inquiry System. However, it must be noted that not all sex offenders are listed on the public website. Only those classified as a Level 3 offender, a predatory sex offender, or a sexually violent dangerous offender. Make sure to read the disclaimer provided. Also, you may encounter information that is no longer current such as last known addresses.

Bail and Bondsman

In Oregon, an accused individual is permitted to secure his release from jail by posting 10% of the total bail amount. This is known as security. Bail and security serve as collateral placed in the court’s keeping to guarantee the defendant’s promise to show up in court whenever requested.

If a judge does not believe that personal recognizance or conditional release is sufficient, he may set a bail amount for the release of a defendant. The amount will be different for each case because it depends on the accused’s crime, his ties to the community, and his criminal record. The judge may set bail for a drug possession charge at $10,000 but require $75,000 for a sex offense.

Oregon is one of only four states that have banned commercial bail bonding. If a defendant skips bail, a bounty hunter will not be hired to apprehend him. Instead, the justice department will be the one acting as a bail bond agency.
