Bail and Bondsman

To secure the release of a person charged with a crime, you must pay the bond set by the court. The bond or bail is the amount of money or value of property required by the court to assure them that the defendant will return once the trial begins. If the defendant misses a court appearance, the bond/bail is forfeited.

When a defendant cannot afford to pay the bond, he/she can hire a bondsman. For 10% of the bail amount, the bondsman can act as a surety. He will be the one responsible for paying the entire bond if the defendant fails to appear. His fee is non-refundable no matter what the outcome of the trial is.
