The Arizona State Prison Complex – San Luis is located in San Luis, Arizona, and can hold 2,245 inmates. The facility opened in 1987. This prison has mixed levels of security, ranging from Custody Level 2 to Custody Level 4. The facility is separated into five units – Cheyenne, Cibola, Cocopah, Dakota, and La Paz. Inmates have work opportunities both within the prison and in the surrounding community. Adult basic education is offered to inmates. Vocational training is available through a local community college. Correspondence courses are also available, at the inmate’s expense. There are numerous treatment and self-help programs, volunteer programs, recreational activities, and religious activities.

Visitation Policies:

Inmates must provide a list of visitors, if they choose to have visitors. Changes to this list may be made every 90 days. People who want to visit or receive calls from inmates must complete the Application to Visit an Inmate form. There is a one-time fee of $25 for a background check of those wanting to visit an inmate. The Warden has authority to approve visitors.

Visitors must sign in with the Visitation Office when they arrive for a visit. A visitor must provide a valid government-issued form of identification. Visitors must adhere to the dress code, and all visitors are subject to search. An inmate may visit with up to 6 people during each visitation. Visitors may not visit more than one inmate during visitation. Certain recreational activities are allowed in the contact visitation area. Visits may be contact or non-contact. Visitation may be suspended at any time.

Visitation is currently suspended due to COVID-19.

Visits are allowed on weekends and posted holidays. General population inmates can receive visitors on both days, but the time allowed is determined by the phase classification of the inmate. No-contact visits are scheduled on Tuesdays, and appointments must be made in advance.
