As of the 2010 census, the county population was 49,625. The county seat and largest community is Kerrville. Joshua D, Brown named the county after another Kentucky native, James Kerr, who was a congressman for Texas. Established in 1856, the county’s total area is 1,107 square miles.
Mooney Aircraft was established in 1929 in Kerrville, which was called the “Mohair Capital of the World” in 1930. The Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital was completed in 1949 and the Kerrville State Hospital opened in 1951.
