Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
In Oregon, state law requires sex offenders to report to the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Unit for records purposes. A sex offender is a person who has a conviction for a crime involving sexual misconduct such as rape, incest with a minor, and sexual abuse. To locate all sex offenders residing in Multnomah County, you will have to call the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3725 Extension 4429. This is because the Oregon Sex Offender Inquiry System only lists offenders that have been classified as a Level 3 offender, predatory sex offender, or a sexually violent dangerous offender. According to the Oregon Revised Statutes, only those offenders that pose a high risk to public safety can be included on the public website.
Bail and Bondsman
The state of Oregon allows pretrial inmates to only pledge 10% of the total bail amount when securing their release from custody. This payment is called security and is used to ensure that the defendant will keep his promise to appear at his trial once it starts.
A pretrial inmate can be released on personal recognizance or conditional release. However, if the judge opposes this, he can require the defendant to pay bail. Bail is set based on the gravity of the crime, the accused’s criminal record, and his history of violence. For example, a person arrested for drug possession may be required to pay a $10,000 bail. But a person charged with a sex crime may be required to pay more such as a $75,000 bail.
In Oregon, the justice department acts as a bail bond agency. This is because the state, along with three others (Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin) have banned commercial bail bonding.
