County History:   

Granville county was established in 1746 and was named for John Carteret, who was the 2nd Earl Granville.  Over 2k men from this county served in the Civil War, many as part of Granville’s Greys.  As with many other southern areas, the county was home to mostly agricultural business; however, today it is known for being a manufacturing sector that produces tires, clothing and cosmetics.  The county courthouse, built in 1840 is on the National Register of Historic Places.
