Bail and Bondsman

A risk assessment tool is utilized in New Jersey to determine whether a defendant will be detained while awaiting trial or released on his own recognizance with or without monitoring by the courts. This algorithm makes use of the defendant’s information including criminal history to assess whether or not he or she will harm the community or flee. A high score means yes, the defendant is a flight risk and/or will commit another crime and must be detained. A low score, on the other hand, recommends the release of a defendant.
