Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

According to federal law, a sex offender must register his information with local law enforcement so that it will be recorded in the state sex offender database and the national sex offender database. These systems are used to monitor the movements of these offenders to help increase public awareness and safety. To be classified as a sex offender, a person must have been convicted of a sexually oriented crime such as rape, sexual assault, and child pornography. You can view information on sex offenders residing in Cumberland County by going to the Sheriff’s Alert page. Keep in mind that some offenders fail to comply with the law. As such, you may find that some records in the database only contain the last known address of an offender.

Bail and Bondsman

In Cumberland County, the old cash bail system is no longer used. When a person is charged with a crime, his temporary release from prison while awaiting trial will depend on the score he gets from a risk assessment tool. Using his data, this algorithm will try to predict how likely it will be for the defendant to commit another crime or fail to appear in court once the trial starts. A high score means a high chance of one or both those scenarios happening, thus, the defendant will be detained until his trial. A low score means there is a low possibility of either of those situations occurring which means it is recommended that he be released on his own recognizance.
