Bail and Bondsman

A pretrial inmate is allowed to remain out of jail as long as he/she has posted bail – money or value of property lodged with the court. Bail is used by the court to guarantee that the defendant will appear before the court once the trial starts. Missing a court appearance will result in the bail getting forfeited.

If the defendant cannot afford to pay the bail set by the court, he can still secure his release with the help of a bondsman. To hire a bondsman, the defendant will have to pay 10% of the bail amount to him. This fee is non-refundable.
