Bail and Bail Bondsman

As a Defendant, you may post bail yourself, have someone over 18 years old post it on your behalf, or use a bondsman. The person posting bail for you assumes responsibility for your financial court responsibilities. If you fail to appear as required, a warrant will be issued for your immediate arrest and the bail will be forfeited. Maryland allows the following bail options. Cash bail, property bail, intangible assets, credit or debit cards, and professional bail bondsman. A bail bondsman will require a non refundable fee to post bail. In addition to the fee, the bondsman sometimes requires collateral or property to secure their trust and post your bail on your behalf. Collateral will be returned to the bondsman who posted it after disposition of the charges and all court appearances are met. The service fee and collateral received must be displayed on the bail bond form. A lawyer is not required to post bail but it is always smart to retain legal advice.
