Important Jail Policies and Procedures

Accommodations are made for one 1 1/2 hour visit per inmate per week. Visiting days and hours vary according to the Dallas County jail facility. Due to limited staffing, visitation is allowed Monday through Friday only. Inmates are informed of visiting days and hours and are responsible for relaying this information to those who wish to visit them.

Government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, military identification, passport or state-issued ID card, must be presented by each adult visitor. Visitors who do not have proper identification will not be permitted to visit.
Anyone held in the Dallas County Correctional Facility within the past six (6) months will not be allowed to visit current inmates.
Visitors must be appropriately dressed. Shoes, shirts and appropriate underclothing must be worn. Visitors wearing suggestive clothing, transparent fabric, short-shorts or mini-skirts will not be permitted to visit.
No one under the age of 18 is allowed to visit inmates without a court order. Orders may be obtained by an attorney.
Visitors must remain in the assigned visiting room/area during the visit and will be denied further visitation if determined to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Visitors may not give anything to or take anything from an inmate.
Proper behavior of all visitors is required.

Dispatcher Responsibilities:

    Acts as first responder at scene of accidents/crimes; secures scene, provides emergency first aide/CPR; provides death notification to family members
    Conducts preliminary investigations; interviews witnesses/victims to obtain statements; collects, photographs/marks evidence; reconstructs the accident/crime scene by preparing detailed sketches/diagrams; takes measurements; prepares detailed reports; may conduct follow up investigations
    Apprehends/arrests individuals involved in the commission of a crime;executes warrants/court orders; transports offenders to jail; enforces court orders for mental commitments/evaluations
    Initiates the filing of charges against suspected criminals; files probable causes, complaint forms, and criminal histories to the County Attorney’s office; attends court proceedings/appears at hearings to assist/provide testimony regarding arrests/investigations
    Participates on internal/external committees/task-forces as assigned; conducts physical surveillance of suspected criminal activity; provides courthouse security

    Civil :
    Serve legal papers such as protective orders, subpoenas, summons/petitions, garnishments, orders to appear, citations, eviction notices, and other court processes to citizens within Dallas County
    Execution of Writs, conduct sheriff sales, and Levy’s
    Reprocesses, seizes, and transports property/persons as ordered by the Court
    Attend ISSDA Civil School
    Occasionally respond to calls for service to include traffic offenses
    Perform other duties as assigned by Sheriff or Chief Deputy

    Community Relations :
    Serves as liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the community in an effort to present, coordinate, and increase awareness of various community programs
    Makes public presentations on crime prevention, safety, emergency preparedness, and personal/property protection to schools/community groups; provides training on domestic violence/protective orders to citizen groups
    Performs other duties as assigned

    Dispatcher Qualifications:

    Must obtain IOWA/NCIC certifications within six (6) months of employment and maintain throughout duration of employment.
    Must obtain Priority Dispatch certification in Police and Fire protocols within a time frame as established by the employer and maintain throughout the duration of employment
    Must attend required forty (40) hour BASIC Telecommunications program through the IOWA Law Enforcement Academy within one (1) year of hire date.
