Sheriff Dan Walsh realizes how important it is for inmates to have visitors. Most inmates are allowed two twenty-minute visits per week. Video visitation is held 7 days a week.

A Supervisor can deny, change or cancel a visit at any time at their discretion. Visits are subject to monitoring and recording. Visits must be scheduled 24 hours prior to the appointment. Working at Champaign County Jail or Sheriff’s Office:

When you have successfully completed the application for employment at the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and required tests, you will be placed on an eligibility list as a candidate for Deputy Sheriff. This list will be used when it becomes necessary to employ a Deputy Sheriff. As a reminder, all Deputies must be (or become) a resident of Champaign County, be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age and meet any additional criteria that may be established by the Commission. You will be required to be physically fit, and capable of successfully passing the required fitness and academic tests as prescribed by the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Failure to pass any of the tests or inquiries may result in your removal from the eligibility list. You will be subjected to a variety of additional requirements, which will include (but not be limited to) a polygraph exam, physical and psychological exam and background investigation.

You are required to read and interpret documents, add, subtract, multiply and divide, and have the ability of applying common sense and understanding.
