Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the money you give to the court to secure your release while awaiting trial. This money is held in the court’s keeping for the entire duration of your trial to ensure your compliance with the court’s demands. Failure to fulfill your court obligations means you lose the money you “deposited” with the court.

If you cannot afford to post bail on your own, you can get a bondsman to help you. A bondsman will sign a bond with the court which will result in your release. This bond needs to be paid in full by the bondsman if you fail to appear before the court once the trial starts. To hire a bondsman, you need to pay him 12% of the bail amount. This fee is non-refundable.
