Augusta county was born in 1737 and is located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  Staunton is the county seat, while many administrative services are located in nearby Verona.  It was named for Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, who was the Princess of Wales and mothered the future British King George III.  Like many Virginia counties, Augusta is rich in Civil War history and was known as the “breadbasket of the confederacy” because of its significant agriculture.
