Visitation at River North Correctional Center occurs on Saturdays and Sundays and utilizes a rotating schedule based on the first letter of the inmate’s last name.

Visitation Policies:

  1. All visitors must complete and submit a visitor application. A separate application must be completed for each proposed visitor (minor or adult). It is recommended that applicants have all the required documentation ready and available prior to filling out the online application to ensure successful completion and submission. The Department only accepts Electronic Visit Applications for prison.
  2. Visitors who are 18 years of age and older must present a valid, current photo identification at the time of the visit (e.g., driver’s license or state I.D. card, passport, military or government identification, tribal identification, alien registration).
  3. The identification card will be scanned into VACORIS and maintained in a secure location until it is returned to the visitor at the conclusion of the visit; the visitor should be given a visitor pass in exchange for their identification card.
  4. Emancipated minors must provide documentation of emancipation in addition to a valid picture identification card.
  5. All visitors, including children, will need to follow the dress code when visiting an offender. Please adhere to the guidelines below when visiting a facility. Attire Must: Cover from the neck to the kneecaps; Include appropriate underwear, and footwear worn at all times.
  6. All visitors, including children, should not be dressed inappropriately in any way and their attire must not contain symbols or signs with inappropriate language or graphics, including watches and all wearable technology.
  7. All visitor applications expire three years after the approval date. Submit a new, updated visitor application online at least 30 days before expiration for in-state visitors and 90 days before expiration for out-of-state visitors to continue uninterrupted visitation privileges.
  8. If you would like to apply for a minor to visit an offender, their application must be attached to an adult application. Complete the online visitation application and follow the prompts to add a minor. You can add more than one minor to your application.
  9. If you are not the parent or legal guardian of the accompanying minor, permission must be documented on a Notarized Statement – Minor Visitor form.
  10. You will only be able to visit multiple offenders if they are your immediate family. Visitors are limited to visiting one offender that is not an immediate family member.
  11. If you need help completing an application to visit an offender, we encourage you to contact AFOI. They do not have access to information regarding your application once it has been submitted. For application status information, please contact our staff.
  12. All institutions typically allow visiting on Saturdays, Sundays, and state holidays, but visitation procedures at individual institutions may vary and can be changed at any time. Please contact the facility directly before planning a visit to obtain further information.
  13. We will conduct annual background checks on each visitor. If you were approved in the past, you are not necessarily guaranteed approval in the future.
  14. We provide reasonable accommodation during the visitation for those who are disabled. If you have a mobility impairment, please contact the facility before visiting to ensure accommodations are in place.
  15. If you need to use a walker or wheelchair to access the visiting area, you will be required to use a VADOC-owned wheelchair for the visit. Specialized wheelchairs may be allowed after a reasonable search, including chairs that are medically required for a visitor without the use of their extremities and/or those who are unable to stand.
  16. Service or guide animals may be permitted in the visitation area based on specific circumstances. Please submit a request to the facility to receive proper approval before your visit.
  17. The Visitor Application and Background Investigation Authorization will expire three years from the
  18. date it is approved in the VACORIS Visiting Module. A new, updated Visitor Application and Background Investigation Authorization must be submitted online prior to expiration for continued visitation.

  20. Authorization and have a valid government picture identification card scanned into the VACORIS Visiting Module will be denied the visit. If the name of the visitor has been obtained, the refusal will be documented and submitted to the Facility Unit Head.
  21. Any individual with a history of felony conviction(s) for drug distribution and/or possession within the last five years will not be approved to visit except with an offender who is an immediate family member.
  22. Immediate family members with a history of felony conviction(s) for drug distribution and/or possession within the last three years will be reviewed and approved or disapproved on a case-by-case basis by the Corrections Operations Administrator or designee.
  23. Any individual that has been banned from visitation due to attempting to smuggle a controlled substance into a facility will not be approved for visitation with any offender who is not an immediate family member.
  24. Immediate family members that have been banned from visitation due to attempting to smuggle a controlled substance into a facility will not be considered for reinstatement of visiting privileges within three years after the effective date of the ban or restriction.
  25. If the visitor is a former volunteer, employee, intern, or contract employee of the Department of Corrections or a former employee of the Department of Correctional Education, visitation must be approved in writing by the Corrections Operations Administrator after consultation with the Facility Unit Head.
