Important Jail Policies and Procedures:
Inmates are responsible for completing a Visitation Form that will include the list of people who they wish to visit them. All approved visitors must have a current, valid photo ID. They may be subject to search prior to entering or leaving the jail. Each visitor must complete a Visitor Information Form during their first visit. Minors do not need to be on the approved list but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the list. Each inmate is allowed one 1-hour, non-contact visit each week. Visiting hours are determined by cell assignment. Inmates are responsible for notifying their visitors of his/her visitation times.

Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
All sex offenders are mandated by law to submit their information to local law enforcement after their release from jail for entry into the national and state sex offender registries. An individual is classified as a sex offender if he has been found guilty of a criminal offense involving sexual conduct such as rape, child molestation, and sex trafficking. Residents of Blount County can search for sex offenders in their area here.
Keep in mind that not all the information can be guaranteed 100% accurate as some sex offenders do not comply with the law. You may get search results that show previous residential addresses or incomplete addresses such as just the block where an offender resides in.
Bail and Bondsman
An individual charged with a crime can be permitted temporary release from custody or jail while awaiting trial as long as he assures the court that he will be present at his trial. This process is called bail. For certain offenses, the court may ask the defendant to also lodge money or property with the court as added insurance. If he does not show up, the money or property is forfeited.
A bondsman aids people who are unable to post bail due to financial difficulties. For a fee, the bondsman will guarantee payment of the entire bail amount if the defendant does not appear before the court. In return for his guarantee, the bondsman will charge the defendant a fee. The fee is set at 10% of the bail amount and it cannot be refunded.
