Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

Inmates are allowed video visitation at the Summit County Jail. Visitors may visit from home or from the jail lobby. The facility has several rules that all visitors must take note of.

• All visits are subject to monitoring and recording
• All visits must be scheduled 2 days prior to the appointment or up to 2 weeks in advance.
• Visits will last 25 minutes
• Each inmate is allowed one visit per week but another visit can be obtained for a fee.
• The cost of a remote visitation is $12.50.
• An inmate in disciplinary housing will only be allowed to visits with an immediate family member: mother, father, wife, brother, sister.Relationship to the inmate must be noted in the jail computer system before the visit can proceed.
• Please be advised if an inmate is in program (at court, on trustee assignments, attorney visits, Bible studies, Chemical Dependency etc.), they are NOT eligible to receive the visit at that time. Please schedule your visits around the inmate’s program schedule.
• Visitors should arrive 15 minutes prior to appointment to check in.
• Only two (2) visitors and (1) child will be permitted to visit at a time.
• All visitors must possess a valid government issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, State ID card, or Military Issued ID.
• All children (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by their legal guardian and must possess a copy of the child’s birth certificate or guardianship paperwork.
• Appropriate dress is required at all times.
• Visitors and inmates must remain seated at all times during the visitation session. Small children, three (3) years old and younger, must remain on the visitors lap at all times.
• The visitation schedule may be cancelled or altered on county appointed holidays or for safety / security reasons.
• Staff can deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time at their discretion.
• Bringing firearms, explosives, tools for escape, alcoholic beverages, narcotics or any controlled substances including marijuana into this facility is a crime and cause for arrest.
• Visitors are not allowed to carry cameras, tape recorders, purses, bags, brief cases, wallets, cell phones, or any electronic device into the visitation area.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated.

Inmates are allowed to receive letters and 4 standard pictures.  Mail containing glitter, crayon, marker, or colored pencil drawings, tape, staples, stickers, perfume/cologne sprayed on letters, obscene or nudity of any kind in photos or drawings depicting gang or criminal activity, glue, and rubber ink stamps will not be accepted.

Bail and Bondsman

If you are arrested for a crime in Summit County, the court may grant you bail depending on the gravity of the charges filed against you. Bail is the temporary release of a defendant while waiting for his trial to start with the condition that he puts down money as collateral to ensure that he shows up at his trial. If he does not, the money is forfeited to the court.

A bondsman is hired if a defendant is unable to come up with the money for posting bail. A bondsman is an individual who can act as a surety, guaranteeing to the court that he will pay the entire bail amount if the defendant misses a court appearance. To hire a bondsman, you must pay him 10% of the bail amount as his fee. You may also be required to put down collateral worth the remaining bail amount if the bondsman believes you to be a flight risk.
