Caswell county, formed in 1777 has its first county seat in Leasburg, NC; however, it was moved to Yanceyville around 1792.  The tobacco curing process was refined here by the Slade family, and as a result the area became very wealthy.  The local paper, The Caswell Messenger has been publishing for more than 85 years.
