Bail and Bail Bondsmen:
Everyone committed to the custody of the Alexander County Jail is assigned conditions of release by the Magistrate. These conditions may include a bond which is a monetary amount that guarantees that person’s appearance at all court dates. Depending on the amount of the bond, the person posting that bond may be required to produce proof of current tax payments for their property. Bonds can be satisfied by one of the following methods:
- Pay the full amount of the bond in cash to the Clerk of Court. The full amount will be returned to the surety (person making the bond) after the defendant has appeared at all court dates and the case has been disposed of.
- Use the value of real property owned by the surety in Alexander County to satisfy the bond amount. This may require the person to produce a current tax certification obtained from the Alexander County Tax Office.
- Pay a bondsman to act as a surety. This generally incurs a non-refundable fee paid to the bondsman (usually around 15%-20% of the bond amount) but may be satisfied by other means arranged with the bonding agency.
